Standing Against Hate, Racism, and Violence

Like you, we are devastated by the recent and seemingly endless wave of hate and gun violence which have claimed innocent lives and destroyed countless others. It is both heartbreaking and infuriating.

Between the racist mass shooting in Buffalo, New York on May 14 that killed 10 Black people, injuring 3 others, and the mass shooting of 19 children and 2 teachers on May 24 at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, it is clear something more has to be done to keep our children, families, and communities safe.

Many of us are at a loss for words, and we hope you will find ways, big and small, to take care of yourself and your community today and always. At Riley’s Way, we will continue to come together and lean on our values of kindness and empathy to make a difference.

Our very wise Board member and Head of School at the Nightingale-Bamford School, Paul Burke, wrote to his community, “What then do we tell our children in moments like these when we don’t have all the answers? For starters, we tell them that we love them…We tell them that in spite of all the hardness of life, forward-moving people are always on the lookout for hope.”

Our Riley’s Way community is full of hope. As we look around at our young leaders, we are renewed with hope for a better world that they are already building. However, we also recognize that we can not alone leave them to fix the things that have broken on our watch; we all have to do more.

We will continue to stand with you against hate, racism, and violence and be kinder to ourselves and each other as we search for answers and a path forward.

Our sincerest thoughts go out to all the victims and everyone impacted by this senseless violence and hate.

We wish you peace, comfort, and strength during these difficult times.

With love,
Riley’s Way
